Storey County Nevada was home to the famous Comstock Lode gold find of 1859. The discovery brought hundreds of thousands to the area in search of riches. The largest of the mining towns in Storey County was Virginia City. In 1875 it boasted a population of over 75,000 people. It was awash with saloons, brothels, and mean ornery types who went bust looking for Gold. The town was also featured in the epic Western TV series Bonanza. The sheriff was plenty busy arresting and blasting near-do-wells of every race, color, and creed!
