You probably have never heard of this Federal agency and you probably do not have one of their badges! Long before the creation of the Drug Enforcement Administration when the Federal drug laws were enacted, the Bureau of Narcotics was created within the Treasury Department. While the nation focused on Bootleggers and smugglers of alcohol, this obscure agency fought the Opium wars, and went after marijuana and cocaine dealers. The drug dealers plied their trade with the same violence and intimidation as the bootleggers, and the Federal Narcotics Agents. Though not as well known as the enforcers of the Volstead Act, they pursued the violators with the same fervor and dedication as the other prohibition agents! This U.S. Narcotic Agent Badge was used in the 1920's and 1930's.
