On July 22, 2004 President Bush Signed the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act. This law allows any retired local, state or federal officer to carry a concealed weapon if they meet the following criteria.
- Honorably discharged from job after 15 years of service
- No medical conditions that would exempt them (alcoholism, depression, etc)
- Current handgun qualification from the department they served with
- No federal law prohibiting possession of a pistol
- Has pension plan benefit from agency
To help retired officers identify themselves, we are now offering the Retired Law Enforcement Officers National Concealed Carry Permit Badge; which identifies you as a retired officer who is authorized to carry a weapon. Please see our badge law link for more details of the law.
