Once the most prosperous French Colonies in the Western Hemisphere, Haiti descended into near anarchy in the 1950's to the 1980's. While ruled by the despotic Duvallier family, the country had few freedoms. The infamous Papa Doc Duvallier ruled with an iron fist and his edicts were carried out by the Tonton Macoutes (Secret Police). These thugs wore flowered shirts, sunglasses and fashionable straw hats. They elevated the art of murder, torture, and brutality to new levels and were indisputably the most evil and sinister of all Caribbean law enforcement agencies. Our 3 1/2-inches x 2 1/2-inches collector patches come complete with a grinning skull and gold lettering on a peaceful royal blue background.
